Police have identified the man who was fatally shot behind a Hook Fish & Chicken in the West End on Thursday.
According to police, around 12:30 p.m. officers responded to reports of a person shot in the 1900-block of Keywitt Alley.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a man in his 60s suffering from a gunshot wound.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Walter Metz Jr.
It's the second fatal shooting in less than 24 hours in the area.
"This is not the right direction for this neighborhood or this community. We understand they are hurting and want answers, and they deserve answers, and we're going to try to help them get those answers," Cincinnati Police Cpt. Steve Saunders said.
While officers were investigating the surrounding area, police said they received reports a person that might've been involved in the shooting had fled to the area of Dayton Street.
Police and SWAT teams responded to search the building where the person had reportedly fled to.
"We evacuated some residents in the building and ensured they were safe. The person they thought they saw went in after police searched the building, and that person was not in the building," Saunders said.
Police confirmed a suspect, Darnell Nelson, 36, was arrested and charged Thursday night for Metz's murder.
"There's a family that's grieving right now, right. [And] we had a homicide within the last 24 hours also in this area that is also grieving," Saunders said.
