A Chico woman was arrested Tuesday after police received reports that she had been using heroin and methamphetamine around children.

According to police, detectives received information that an inmate at the Butte County Jail was regularly communicating with a woman by phone and that during the phone calls the woman was actively using drugs in front of children.

Detectives got a search warrant for a home in the 1100 Block of Shumard Oak Way and found Tara Lee Patterson with two children and a man. Detectives say they found evidence that indicated that Patterson had been using drugs in front of the children.

Patterson was arrested and during the booking process was found to have over five grams of heroin in her possession.
