Have A Blast From The Past at the 74th Annual Grant County Fair

This year’s Grant County Fair kicks off on Saturday, July 16th with a day of activities slated. The day will begin with the downtown parade with floats, antique tractors, horses and more! The parade is scheduled to be on Main Street at 10:20 a.m. Following the parade, the focus shifts to the fairgrounds with a free hot dog feed at 11:00 a.m. and the power pedal tractor pull for kids at 12:00 p.m. Come out and enjoy the 4-H and open class dog show in Walker Auditorium at 1:00 p.m The day will wrap up with the first performance of the Ulysses Stampede rodeo at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.

On Sunday, the second night of rodeo action begins at 7:30 at the rodeo arena. The activities continue on Monday with a free fajita feed that evening at 5:30 p.m. at the rodeo arena followed by a corn hole tournament at 6:00p.m. La Sombra Chicana will be performing a free concert at 6:00p.m at the covered arena.

Lots of fun is scheduled on Tuesday, July 20th. The rodeo arena will be the place for the open class and 4-H horse show performance events at 5:30 p.m.  Everyone loves the annual turtle races which begin at 7:00 p.m. in the show ring and watermelon will be served by New Beginnings Church. Immediately following the turtle races, the cardboard box car challenge will be held with three age groups: one to four; five to eight; and nine to twelve years. When the sun goes down, everyone is invited to pull up their box car or lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the movie “Back To The Future” under the stars.

The open class and 4-H swine show kicks off the Wednesday activities at 8:00 a.m. and the commercial booths will open to the public at 11:00 a.m. in Walker Auditorium of the Civic Center. “Back To The Future II” will be paying in the auditorium at 1:00 p.m. The goat and sheep show will be held at 5:00 in the show arena. The Grant County Recreation Talent Show begins at 7:00 in the auditorium.

Moving on to Thursday, the action will once again begin in the show arena as bucket calves, beef cattle and dairy cattle and goats will be shown at 8:00 a.m. The pet show will be held in the South Room at 2:00 p.m. “Back To The Future III” will be paying in the auditorium at 3:00 p.m. The evening’s events include the free barbecue in the Commercial building from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., along with the Junior Civic Ice Cream Social and the Western Prairie Antique Tractor Pull. “Bridging The Gap” will be live in concert outside north of the covered area beginning at 8:00 p.m.

The final day of the fair begins with the Round Robin Fitting and Showing at 9:30 a.m., the rabbit and poultry show at 1:00 p.m., and the open class pet dog show at 3:00 in the auditorium. The movie “Blast From The Past” will be playing in the auditorium at 1:00 p.m. The annual livestock auction will be held in the show arena at 6:00 p.m. followed by the buyer’s dinner. Also at 7:00 p.m., the Heglin Family will perform in Walker Auditorium.

There is so much to see and do during this year’s Grant County Fair. Caricature artist Jason Sauer will be displaying his talent along with Color Me Crazy face painting and air brush tattoos in the auditorium from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m on Wednesday and Thursday. Grant County Feeders will once again be providing the T-bone express for the enjoyment of the kids. Bring the family out and have a great time at the 73rd annual Grant County Fair.
