Sea Scout Ship #226 “Constellation” teamed up with the Everett Navy Sea Cadet Corps for their annual Jetty Island Beach clean-up in Everett.
Together the Sea Scouts and the Navy Cadets spent Saturday morning June 25th picking up plastic and trash along the beach at Jetty Island. The Sea Scouts picked this particular day for their annual Jetty Island beach cleanup because it’s the weekend before passenger service starts back up to the island, “We wanted the public to enjoy a clean island.”
The Sea Scouts provided the transportation to Jetty Island on their two sailboats, Odysseus a Jeanneau 36 and Electra, a Hallberg Rassy 42E, and the Navy Sea Cadets provided the pizza in the Milltown Sailing Association clubhouse after the beach clean-up was finished.
Henry B. a Junior Sea Scout said “I didn’t know cleaning up a beach could be so much fun! My favorite part was hanging out with my friends and doing something that is good for Puget Sound.”
The most unusual item (and heaviest) that was picked up from the beach was a very large tractor tire. It was a team effort from the Navy Sea Cadets to get it across the island to the dock.
The Sea Scout program is a fun, exciting, and high adventure for young men and women aged 14 and older. Not only do they have social events, sailing, Log Dodge races, long cruises to the San Juan Islands, and community service projects, they also learn about nautical and leadership skills.
