WESTLAND, MI – A Michigan woman is dead after she was shot in the head twice, allegedly by her boyfriend when an argument between them escalated in Westland on Wednesday, June 29, authorities said.

Cary Anthony Taylor, 41, of Westland, is charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Tabitha Cornwall, 41, of Westland, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

At 12:06 a.m. Wednesday, Westland police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 35270 block of Glenwood for a reported shooting, according to the prosecutor’s office. Upon arrival, officers found the victim inside her vehicle. She was unresponsive and had two gunshot wounds to the left side of her head. Medics arrived at the scene and pronounced her dead.

It is alleged that a verbal argument between the defendant and the victim escalated, and Taylor produced and fired a handgun into Cornwall’s vehicle, fatally injuring her, the release said.

He then allegedly fled the scene and barricaded himself in a nearby residence for hours before he surrendered and was arrested by the Westland Police Department.

Taylor was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder and felony firearm and remanded to jail Thursday in 18th District Court. His probable cause conference is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, and the preliminary examination is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14, before Judge Sandra Cicirelli.
