COEUR D'ALENE - On the morning of Thursday, June 30 at approximately 6:00 a.m., officers with the Coeur D'Alene Police Department responded to the area of Hanley Avenue and N Courcelles Parkway after receiving a report of an abandoned newborn baby that was left on the doorstep of a nearby apartment.

According to police, the baby was wrapped in a towel and placed in an outside stroller. The resident located the baby as they were leaving for work.

Medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the baby to Kootenai Health to be evaluated. A press release from the CDA Police stated that the baby appears to be a full-term healthy baby that was born only hours earlier.

Detectives were also called to the scene and are currently working to identify and locate the baby’s birth mother or any other biological relatives.
