Death investigation underway after body of missing Rockford woman found

ROCKFORD — The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office has launched a death investigation after the body of a missing woman was found on Rockford's far-west side.

Sharry Crenshaw, 68, of Rockford, was reported missing to the Rockford Police Department on Tuesday. She was last seen driving away from her home on Montague Street.

On Wednesday, sheriff's deputies located Crenshaw's body in the 3600 block of Crowley Street. The vehicle she was reportedly driving, a 1999 Plymouth Voyager, was found on Michigan Avenue in Rockford.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine a cause of death, the sheriff's office said in a release.

Authorities have not said whether they suspect foul play.
