ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) -- While it isn't exactly cheap, gas is slightly less expensive today in one Macomb County community.

According to AAA, the average price for gas in Michigan is now just below the dreaded five bucks mark, at $4.99 a gallon for regular.

But if you're looking for a deal, you may want to head to St. Clair Shores.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Ryan Marshall reported Thursday that four gas stations in the area of 15 Mile Road and Harper Ave. were selling regular for $4.75 a gallon if you pay with cash — averaging 25¢ less than many stations around Metro Detroit.

There's a Sunoco, a BP, a Marathon and a Shell station just down the street.

Several drivers expressed pleasant surprise while filling up their tanks, including Drake Boyer of New Haven.

"Oh, it's so good because I gotta drive to work all the time, I gotta pick people up, I gotta make ends meet," he told Marshall. "Even going grocery shopping, food's more expensive. A little break on the gas will help everyone out."

Chet Hancock of Clinton Township said it was "a blessing" just to pump a gallon of diesel at $5.59 a gallon at the 15 and Harper Marathon.

"Hopefully their don't raise their price now, since other places have been $6," Hancock said.

While $4.75 is considered a good deal at the moment, there are even better prices to be had for those willing and able to shop around. GasBuddy.com showed prices as long as $4.68 in Detroit and $4.69 in Shelby Township for driver who pay with cash. See the frequently updated list HERE.

As it stands, AAA says the national average is now $4.85 per gallon.
