A shooting in St. Maries Wednesday morning left one person dead and another taken into custody, according to Idaho State Police.
It happened at 11:00 a.m. at 1640 Washington Avenue, St. Maries, Benewah County.
Witnesses reported a victim with a gunshot wound at the address. The Benewah County Sheriff's Office and St. Maries Police officers arrived and found a 23-year-old man with a suspected gunshot wound.
The unidentified man was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Investigators said witnesses identified the suspect, as 20-year-old Lonnie James Layman.
Layman's vehicle was later located on the St. Joe River Road, near Calder in Shoshone County.
It was abandoned.
The Kootenai County SWAT team, Benewah County Sheriff's Office, Idaho State Police, Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, and the U.S. Marshall searched the area for the suspect.
The suspect was located and apprehended this evening in Calder, Idaho, by Kootenai County Sheriff's Deputies.
Next of kin has been notified and this is an ongoing investigation.
