The Mid-Penn Conference on Thursday recognized sports teams in each division, and two individuals, that showed exemplary behavior in the 2022 spring season.
The two individuals, Samantha Marshall, of Bishop McDevitt, and Deven Jackson, of West Perry, were the 2021-22 Brunner-Pierce Award Winners.
“Congratulations to senior Samantha Marshall (Girls Lacrosse) - Sam was announced as the Mid Penn Conference’s female winner of the prestigious Edward Briner/William Pierce Award for overcoming personal challenges in life,” according to Bishop McDevitt’s Athletics Facebook page. “The male winner was Devin Jackson (Wrestler) of West Perry High School. Sam will be attending Boston University in Massachusetts where she will continue playing Club Lacrosse. Congratulations Sam & family!”
The award was created in memory of Edward E. Brunner, former principal of Middletown Area High School and William R. Pierce, former principal of Cumberland Valley High School. Brunner and Pierce “were instrumental in the formation of the Mid-Penn Conference and in their memory, the conference awards a plaque to a deserving male and female student-athlete each year,” according to the Mid-Penn Conference.
