45 Years Ago–July 1, 1977

Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Lamar were hosts for a noon buffet and afternoon open house Sunday, June 12 in honor of their daughter and son-in-law’s 25th wedding anniversary. The guests of honor were Eva May and Francis Schallart of Adrian, Mo.


Twenty years ago a native Grant Citian, Bob Owens, was enrolled in summer school at Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville and was beginning his sophomore year. Friday morning, July 1, Dr. Owens will walk into his office in NWMSU’s administration building as the top administrator of the university, an office Dr. Robert P. Foster officially left on June 30 to begin retirement after heading the institution for the past 13 years as the seventh president of the 72-year-old university. Dr. Owens graduated from Northwest Missouri State College in 1959 with a major in business and a minor in economics, returns to his alma mater following a six-year tenure as president of the University of Tampa in Florida.


The 1977 Hawkins-Wilson reunion was held June 26 at the Dean Memorial Park in Dearborn with 40 in attendance. Well-filled baskets provided a bountiful and delicious dinner. Mr.s Daisy Rudolph received a gift for being the oldest person present, age 83, Adam Goodlet, the youngest at 11 months, received a silver dollar. Mrs. Kent Means of Blue Springs came the longest distance and also received a silver dollar.
