Syracuse, N.Y. — A 29-year-old Oswego County man was shot and killed by his neighbor during a dispute on Monday, troopers said.
Charles W. Rothenburg, of Sandy Creek, was found dead inside his neighbor’s home two days after his murder, according to a news release from State Police on Thursday.
His neighbor, 62-year-old Alva G. Parsons, was charged with second-degree murder Wednesday, troopers said.
Rothenburg and his girlfriend were living in a camping trailer on the property next to Parsons’ residence at the time of his death, troopers said.
On Monday, Rothenburg and Parsons got into a fight inside Parsons’ home, troopers said. During the fight, Parsons shot Rothenburg with a pistol, they said.
The gun was recovered by the State Police Forensic Identification Unit, troopers said.
On Monday, someone contacted police to perform a welfare check for Rothenburg, troopers said. They searched for two days until they received a tip that Rothenburg could be in Parsons’ home at 5863 State Route 11, they said.
When troopers checked the home, they found Rothenburg’s body. State Police did not disclose where inside the home the body was found or what happened in the two days between his death and the discovery of his body.
State Police are also investigating a social media post that identified a witness in the shooting, they said.
Troopers ask that anyone withinformation regarding the homicide investigation, they are asked to contact State Police at (315) 366-6000.
