Just in time for the dog days of summer, a popular Lehigh Valley ice cream shop is expanding.

Drizzle Ice Cream, which opened in February 2019 at 47 W. Penn Ave. in Alburtis, is planning to open a second location in mid-July at 5040 Route 873 in the Schnecksville section of North Whitehall Township, owner Steve Zola said.

The new shop will occupy a renovated space that previously housed a dry cleaner in the same shopping center as Weis Markets and McDonald’s.

“We’re really excited,” Zola said. “Drizzle in Alburtis has been doing extremely well, and even throughout the pandemic, the community has really supported us. We had to get creative over the past couple of years, but in the end, I think it’s turned our business into something that differentiates us.”

A couple of the unique features that Zola’s introduced over the past couple of years is ice cream from Penn State Berkey Creamery and online ordering with pickup and delivery options.

Customers can visit the business’ online ordering platform, http://my-site-drizzle-icecream.square.site, and choose which option they desire.

If they opt for pickup, customers simply walk into the shop and grab their bag from a freezer near the door. If they choose delivery, a DoorDash driver is notified and comes to pick up the bag for delivery to the customer’s home.

“So, if we’re super busy and people don’t want to wait or if the weather’s not nice and people don’t want to come out, they can do pickup or delivery with all of our menu items and customization options,” Zola said. “We started that in Alburtis during the pandemic, and it’s just skyrocketed. It totally put us on another level, and so we’re going to continue that in Schnecksville.”

Drizzle’s Schnecksville location will feature the same menu as the original shop.

Customers will enjoy 14-18 flavors of Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream, including popular picks such as Grilled Stickies, Peachy Paterno, Death by Chocolate and Alumni Swirl (vanilla with Swiss mocha chips and blueberry swirl), along with about 26 flavors of ice cream — including top sellers Brownie Blast and Chocolate Peanut Butter Ripple — from Kreider Farms in Penn Township, Lancaster County.

In addition to hand-dipped ice cream, Drizzle also offers chocolate, vanilla and twist soft-serve varieties of Turkey Hill Premium Ice Cream.

“We also have Flavor Bursts, where you can get a flavor strip with the vanilla soft-serve,” Zola said. “So, we have Flavor Bursts like strawberry, pistachio and black raspberry that comes out with it.”

Other menu highlights include Italian ice, milkshakes, banana splits, avalanches (ice cream mixed with candy and other toppings) and sundaes such as brownie, strawberry cheesecake and the top-selling peanut butter cup.

Additionally, the shop features vegan, dairy-free ice cream and milkshakes, along with ice cream cakes that can be customized with any Kreider flavor that you want.

“We’re really excited to bring all of our creations to another community,” Zola said. “Schnecksville is great, and I really wanted to open a shop there because I felt that it’s a pocket of area that could really use the type of ice cream that we offer.”

The Schnecksville store will offer seating for 12-18 customers, around the same as the Alburtis store, Zola said. It also will feature the same hours, which are noon to 9 p.m. daily during the summer.

The new location will feature a staff of about 14 workers, and it is still hiring for some positions, Zola said. Prospective employees can send a message directly through the business’ Facebook page, facebook.com/drizzleicecreamofalburtis.
