MyNorthwest reports on overnight crime in the Puget Sound region on the morning of June 30: two men arrested for a drive-by shooting in Tacoma, a woman shot her neighbor outside their Capitol Hill apartment, and a mystery thief steals saws from Shoreline firefighters.

Drive-by shooting in Tacoma

Thursday morning, Tacoma Police released information about a drive-by shooting that happened last Thursday at the corner of 29th St and Norpoint Way.

Tacoma Fire Department responded to a call from a driver who could not feel his legs, and medics realized it was because he had been shot.

The 45-year-old man was driving north when an SUV pulled up alongside and yelled at him for driving “too slow” and shot at the vehicle.

He was transported to a hospital with a serious gunshot wound.

Tacoma Police have arrested two suspects, a 20-year-old man who is being charged with assault and drive-by shooting, and a 19-year-old man for a drive-by shooting.

Woman shot neighbor in Capitol Hill

Police have arrested a 36-year-old woman who shot her neighbor outside of her apartment building on Capitol Hill.

Just before midnight, the 36-year-old man was smoking outside of the building at the 500 block of 12th Ave, when the woman approached him, “pistol-whipped” him, and shot him.

Medics took the man to Harborview Medical alive, but with serious injuries. Seattle Police arrested the woman in her apartment later that night.

Equipment Stolen from Shoreline Fire Department

Shoreline Fire Department is asking the public to be on the lookout for stolen equipment taken from a fire engine yesterday evening.

While responding to a medical call, a thief stole two chain saws, a cut-off saw, and two Sawzall’s along with batteries and other components for the gear.

They are requesting people to call 911 if they see anyone selling any of the saws or if they are at a pawn shop.

The fire department logo might be scratched off, and SFD etched into them.

Update: Two dead after a shooting at a dinner

After a shooting on Saturday, June 25 in Bitter Lake, the King County Prosecutor’s Office is now bringing two charges of second-degree murder against Juan Bonilla-Vasquez.

In the released details of the case, the murders happened at a quinceañera that the three men were all at.

The two men that Bonilla-Vasquez shot, identified as Giovanni Tapia and Janni Rodriguez, confronted Bonilla-Vasquez about a music video he had posted on social media. This started an argument between the three men where Tapia was shot fatally in the chest.

Rodriguez left to get a handgun while Bonilla-Vasquez, his girlfriend, and their two kids left the celebration. Rodriguez confronted them on the sidewalk where the two exchanged gunfire, with Rodriguez fatally shot nine times.

Bonilla-Vasquez then called police reporting he was the victim of a robbery and the 911 operator advised him to go to the North Precinct, which he did. He was then detained before requesting to speak with an attorney.
