An early evening fire June 29 destroyed a house and killed two family pets in Elyria, according to a news release from Elyria Fire Department Chief Joseph D. Pronesti.

At 6:55 p.m., Elyria firefighters were dispatched to 209 Canary Drive for a fire, the release said.

A short time later, a second alarm brought additional firefighters to the scene, according to the release.

After about 10 minutes, firefighters brought the blaze under control.

There were no injuries, according to the release.

The fire caused severe damage to the residence, and it is a total loss.

Damage is estimated at $15,000, the release said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire departments from Lorain, Elyria Township and Sheffield Village assisted.
