Three men and a 17-year-old boy were arrested in Ocean City last weekend after allegedly robbing and assaulting a man in a motel room downtown.
Jelyja Joseph Malcom, 18, D’andre Xavier Sampson, 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile, all of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Jaden Shawn Mallery, 18, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania were arrested by Ocean City Police on June 25 near 20th Street and charged with robbery, assault, theft, and reckless endangerment.
Police responded to reports of a strong-arm robbery near 20th Street and Philadelphia Avenue, and when they arrived, they met with the victim who said three men punched him nearly 15 times and kicked him in the head at least once before leaving with some of his property.
Specifically, the victim said the men took a gray backpack with “Clean Sky Energy” printed on it with a value of “nothing,” Air Jordan Retros valued at $270, black and gray Under Armour boots valued at $200, a shirt valued at $50, and a phone charger valued at $30.
Police said the victim and suspects were acquaintances and had spent time in the suspects’ room before the assault occurred.
The victim was able to give detailed descriptions of the suspects before being cared for by Ocean City EMS and getting transported to Atlantic General Hospital for the injuries sustained during the assault.
A short time later, police saw a group of three men walking near 23rd Street and Philadelphia Avenue and were able to stop two of them – Sampson and Mallery.
During the stop, officers were able to recover the Clean Sky Energy bag and Under Armour boots.
Police also stopped by the suspects’ motel room on 26th Street and Philadelphia Avenue, where they located Malcolm and the juvenile. After speaking to the two suspects, police searched the room and recovered the Air Jordan shoes.
Video footage obtained in the area showed Malcolm, Mallery, Sampson, the juvenile, and the victim together just before the assault occurred.
The video also showed the five individuals walk out of camera view near Herring Way at 3:38 a.m., and the call about the robbery was made at 3:45 a.m.
All four men were arrested, charged, and held without bond. The juvenile was waived to adult status, according to police.
