5 Stars

This one really hit the spot when I downloaded it onto my Kindle. Lite, entertaining, and good character development. While the business aspects are not relatable to real life, the character interactions and relationships could happen to anyone.

First impressions really do matter, because you never know who is going to be behind that door or on the phone. After the death of her father, Allie, is struggling to come to terms for her what his death means. His lawyer calls to say there was another item on in his will that they need to discuss. That item was the ownership of the professional football team, he owned. Her father loved this team, and she can hardly come to terms that she is now the proud owner of the Washington Wolves.

Allie has not been state side for a few years and will readily admit that she does not follow football or the players, even though it has been her father’s passion. His passion so much so, that she felt he would rather be there and send her away then keep her around and underfoot, as a child. A few unresolved issues lie in the past between Allie and her father that will never be addressed. No matter how much she wants to ask him why her, she cannot. All she must do now is keep going and learn as much as she can. Little did she know that the neighbor she tried to be nice too, is the star quarterback and captain of the football team.

Allie figured that since she was going to stay in the area and figure out what her life would be like without her father, that she should get to know her neighbors. Luke is used to having women throw themselves at him, and while he pretty much always says no, he could have done a better job with his rejection of Allie. Luke figured she was trying to seduce him at their first encounter, as opposed to her being neighborly.

A few days later the two collide again at a meeting, where the team captains, a few front office people and Allie all meet for the first time. Needless to say, sparks fly when they see each other again and realize they will have to work together to make the team run smoothly. Not one to quickly forgive, Luke takes much longer to thaw than Allie. Luke is fiercely protective of his daughter and their privacy, which is where his issues arise with Allie.

A few back-and-forth moments, between the neighbors, and now co-workers, they finally find a place to coexist. Not only are they drawn together for the promotion of the team, both begin to feel an attraction to the other which is undeniable. An arrangement is made between the couple, and all seems to be going well, but Luke is still unsettled from this new development.

The mature content in this book is handled well and is clean for an adult romance novel. The scenes are not overly graphic and tend to be more about their developing connection as opposed to the physical act. This enemies to lovers book is enjoyable to read and will keep you entertained, the entire time. You can see the development of future books in the other characters that the author chooses to highlight and add in for the reader. Overall, this story is light and refreshing, a quick read, perfect for the summer months.
