DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) —
Fallen Virginia veteran firefighter Alicia Monahan will be honored with a procession stretching from Bryson City, NC to Chesterfield, Va on Thursday.

The procession will pass through Danville on its journey honoring the 41-year-old first responder.
Monahan died in a training session being conducted on the Nantahala River in North Carolina. For unknown reasons she became unresponsive in the water, and despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead shortly after at Swain Community Hospital.
"The positive impact she made on her family and friends, our organization, our community and everyone she encountered will live on forever," said Chesterfield County Fire & EMS Chief Loy Senter.
