KEARNS — A man was arrested Wednesday after police say he shot at his girlfriend and at her 12-year-old brother inside their Kearns home, sparking an intensive search by police.

Christobal Galvan, 19, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated child abuse, threat of violence, discharge of a firearm and failing to stop at the command of police.

The incident began just before 6 p.m. Wednesday when police were flagged down by several people near 6100 South and 4900 West who told the officers that Galvan had shot at two people inside a house, and then pointed his gun at the victims' mother.

"After the firearm was discharged and the family ran out of the house and tried to flag down police, Christobal left the house on foot and was alleged to still be armed with a firearm," a police booking affidavit states.

Officers surrounded the area and reported using K-9s, a drone and a helicopter to look for Galvan.

"After an extensive search, Christobal was located and taken into custody. Nearby where Christobal was located, a bag containing some firearm magazines and some ammunition were located. In another spot near where Christobal was located, two handguns were located," according to the affidavit.

Galvan was found hiding in a nearby house that is under construction. Detectives learned that Galvan had gotten into an argument with the 12-year-old boy and told him, "Shut up or I'll shoot you," before pulling out a gun and firing at the boy and his sister, "striking the wall and going into the water heater in the adjacent room," the affidavit states.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
