A privately-owned historic bridge spanning the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania is doubling its tolls for cars and motorcycles, from $1 to $2, starting Friday, after more than a decade without any increases.
The ticket books that are sold to cross Dingmans Ferry Bridge, which include 40 tickets for one way entrance, will also go up in price tomorrow, from $30 to $40.
“After delaying as long as possible, we have found it necessary to increase tolls, effective July 1,” reads a post on the Dingmans Choice and Delaware Bridge Company’s website, which owns and operates the bridge.
The bridge, which crosses the Delaware River, connects Pennsylvania Route 739 in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania with Sussex County Route 560 in Layton, a section of Sandyston Township.
“In recognition of the difficult times, we are giving our valued customers notice so they may purchase a limited number of ticket books before the price increase,” the company said. “Customers may purchase one ticket book per trip over the bridge, from now through the end of the month.”
The last time the toll was increased was in 2008, according to a bridge worker. EZ-pass is not accepted at the bridge, as tolls are accepted manually and in cash or pre-purchased tickets.
Effective July 1, the tolls are:
- Passenger vehicles (4 tires) and motorcycles: $2 or 1 ticket
- Vehicles with a trailer: $3 or 2 tickets
- Larger vehicles within the weight limit: $3 or 2 tickets
- Larger vehicles with a trailer: $4 or 3 tickets
- Wrecker with a vehicle in tow: $5 or 5 tickets
- Ticket book (40 tickets): $40
