HURON — As part of the regular Beadle County Commission meeting Tuesday, the commission met as the county board of adjustment to consider a conditional use permit for Chase Decker to open a body shop, with custom paint work, in Yale.

The land has not been officially purchased at this time, and the conditional use permit has not been approved by the town of Yale, but Decker wanted to bring the possibility before the commission before putting finances and work into buying the land and building the facility for the new shop.

Commissioner Denis Drake asked Decker about the custom paint portion of the shop, including the ventilation, and Decker stated that it would be inspected before opening and would be constructed to ensure safety for cars and staff and to make sure no fumes were an issue for neighbors to the business.

Drake proposed a motion to approve the conditional use permit upon the condition that Decker get the approval from the town of Yale and also complete the purchase of the land. This was approved.

While meeting as the county board of adjustment, the commission also approved a moving permit for Dean Kleinsasser to move a building to his property.

The meeting began with Merl Hanson giving a report on the highway department. He reported that gravel bid is set for July 12.

Hanson reported one township applied for the bridge program, and upon inspection, the bridge would be a good candidate for the county’s program. Commissioner Rick Benson made the motion that the project be funded $50,000 toward completion of the bridge. This was approved by a 3-1 vote of commissioners.

The new highway building is taking shape, according to Hanson, and he presented a quote from Pigott in Sioux Falls for office furniture for the staff room under state contract pricing.

Commissioners also approved the resignation of staff from the state’s attorney’s office and from the county nurse’s office.

Sovanna Beekman met with the commission to review indigent burial and county coroner funding. Three new policies were approved regarding funding indigent final expenses from the county’s perspective.

Commissioners approved a plat of lots for Jack Steele’s property into three lots.

Refund of taxes on record #14805 due to overpayment was approved.

The next county commission meeting will be held July 12 at 9 a.m. in the commission room at the Beadle County courthouse.
