KENTUCKY (WFIE) - Governor Andy Beshear held a Team Kentucky update Thursday.

He discussed a variety of topics.

Governor Beshear announced a new infrastructure award for Owensboro and some more funding for counties hit by the December storms.

The governor says he’s awarding $500,000 in grants to riverports across Kentucky, and the Owensboro Riverport Authority will be getting a portion of that money. He says this will go towards replacing old equipment.

Governor Beshear also announced that Hopkins County is getting an additional $655,000 in SAFE funding. This money will be used by the county to purchase heavy equipment to help with debris removal from the storm.

“Remember these are the funds appropriated by the General Assembly ultimately opened up on the last day that helps us help counties, and cities, utilities to help with clean up and rebuilding to make sure that the cost of that aren’t born by the citizens,” Beshear said.

Since early May, Governor Beshear says he’s been able to give over $37 million in SAFE funds to tornado-affected counties, and he says now Hopkins County is eligible for more in an effort to get the county cleaned up.
