WORCESTER — Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley celebrated its annual Community Day complete with a display of local first responders.

Members of the Montgomery Township Police Department, Hatfield Township Police Department, Skippack EMS, DARE Car of Upper Gwynedd, Worcester Fire Company, Norristown Fire Department, and Allan Myers with a dump truck, among others, were on site at Variety with their vehicles to interact with campers to help them understand the important role first responders play in the community.

Campers also enjoyed a barbecue lunch courtesy of Vincent Giordano Co. and event sponsor North Penn Water Authority. Volunteers from SEI and the Worcester community were on campus to grill and serve lunch to the 100+ Variety kids along with the first responders.

In addition to first responder interactions, Variety gifted an adaptive trike to a teenager from Variety’s programs through the Rachael Rosenberg Direct Care Program.

Named in honor of Malcolm Rosenberg’s daughter Rachael, a former Variety camper who passed away, this program was created by Malcolm in remembrance of his daughter who enjoyed Variety’s programs over the years.

“Adaptive equipment such as this trike help children and young adults with disabilities participate in a typical childhood experience of riding a bike, not to mention the health benefits,” stated CEO Dominique Bernardo. “We are grateful to Malcolm for his generosity and recognize the impact he and this program has had over the years on many children”.

Variety’s mission is to enrich the lives of children and young adults with disabilities through social, educational and vocational programs that nurture independence and self-confidence, and prepare them for life.

Each year, hundreds of families eagerly await coming “home” to Variety for a summer full of rich relationships and engaging activities. Variety summer camps include day camp, overnight camp, extended school year (ESY) and vocational camp. In addition, Variety’s workforce development program, VarietyWorks provides young adults with valuable job training and places them in community employment.
