SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The Sault Sainte Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians has a new chairman.
The tribe’s Board of Directors appointed vice chair DJ Hoffman chairman at a special meeting Monday.
Former chair Aaron Payment resigned on May 10. Hoffman will serve out the rest of that term until the next election in 2024.
Hoffman served as vice chairman from 2016 to 2022 and secretary for two years. He’s also served on various committees.
Hoffman earned a master's degree in public administration from Northern Michigan University.
