BEAVER – Bayron Paz, 29, of Aliquippa, formerly of Texas, was sentenced Wednesday for an aggravated assault charge in connection with a November shooting in Monaca.

Paz was sentenced to a minimum sentence of 11 months and 29 days, to a maximum sentence of 23 months and 29 days at the Beaver County Jail, followed by 36 months of probation.

According to court papers, Paz was charged with shooting another man twice in the legs in the parking lot of P-Dub’s Sports Bar & Grille, in Monaca, just after midnight on Nov. 7, 2021.

In April, a writ of habeas corpus petition was filed on behalf of Paz, regarding whether his detention was lawful.

On May 17, Paz pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault, with a charge of attempted criminal homicide being dismissed, while another charge of aggravated assault, and charges of risking catastrophe and reckless endangerment were withdrawn.

On probation, he is to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and treatment, to pay restitution to the victim, and to have no contact with the victim and go on the victim's property.
