Arrest made in May killing of Fayetteville teen on Yadkin Road

U.S. Marshals arrested a man Tuesday in South Carolina on a Cumberland County warrant charging him with first-degree murder in the May shooting death of a teen on Yadkin Road, according to the Fayetteville Police Department on Thursday.

Lamon Isaiah Townsend, 21, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Bennettsville, South Carolina, a news release said. 

Townsend is accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old in the parking lot of 5709 Yadkin Road around 7:41 p.m. on May 13, according to police. The teen was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds and died from his injuries, police said.

According to Fayetteville police spokesman Officer Jeremy Strickland, Townsend will likely return to North Carolina next week. He is currently being held in the Marlboro County, South Carolina, jail.
