The Centralia American Legion Annual 4th of July Homecoming in Fairview Park will open Friday night and continue through Monday evening. The event starts at six each night and closes at ten pm. The carnival will be adding several new rides. There will be a $25 a night armband special.

The Legion’s Wayne Sensel says the fireworks display has been moved to ten Saturday night as the company that does the display did not have enough employees to keep the event on the 4th. However, Sensel feels there could be some advantage to those who found it difficult to get up for work the next morning when staying up for the display on the 4th.

Other highlights include the car show on Monday, with registration beginning at nine am. There will be Bingo each night at six under the CN Pavilion. There will also be a variety of food and refreshment vendors on hand.

Meanwhile, the 11th Annual Greater Centralia Area Veterans 4th of July Parade is set for one Monday afternoon. The Grand Marshall is the Honorable World War II POW Sergeant Wilbert “Vince” Rolves of Beckemeyer. Parade Chair Butch Mathis says there are currently 34 entries in the parade including four floats.

If you would like to join the parade contact Mathis at (618) 533-5602 or (618) 322-4238 or sign up at the Registration Table before the Parade starts. Line-up starts at 12:15 at Broadway and Chestnut Street. The parade will travel west on Broadway to Fairview Park where awards will be presented.
