A 24-year old Center (ND) man was killed when he crashed his pick-up and stock trailer into a moving BNSF train east of Steele Tuesday night.
The North Dakota Patrol says the driver was heading on 30th Avenue Southeast shortly before 9:30 p.m. and hit the side of the train which was traveling at speeds of 50 to 60 mph. The impact pushed the truck into the southeast ditch.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Cole Helmers. The NDHP says three head of cattle in the stock trailer died. The train had 10 cars and one engine with an approximate weight of around 757 tons.
The accident remains under investigation.
