Farm house in rural Waverly burns to the ground

WAVERLY, S.D.–A structure fire in rural Waverly had South Shore and Watertown Fire Departments busy. The fire at 45961 165th Street was called in just after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.

 

A passerby noticed heavy, black smoke coming from a private farm site.

 

Once on scene, fire crews found an old, abandoned farm house fully engulfed in flames. Strong winds pushed the flames over tree tops, causing the trees to catch fire.

 

Fire units were on the scene for just over three hours.

 

The house burned to the ground and is a total loss.

 

Watertown Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by a Codington County Sherriff deputy, South Shore Fire Department, Codington County Emergency Management and Codington Clark Electric
