Maine fans will pack Hadlock Field Thursday night to see the lefty pitch

Hadlock Field will be buzzing Thursday night as Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale makes a rehab start for the Portland Sea Dogs against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.Sale is recovering from broken ribs.Thursday's game quickly sold out after it was announced that Sale would be on the mound. The Sea Dogs announced on Wednesday that the gates would open early at 4 p.m. due to the large crowd expected. First pitch is at 6 p.m.Fans going to the game were encouraged to not bring any bags in order to help the lines getting into the ballpark move faster.Sale made two rehab starts for the Sea Dogs in 2021. In his first outing on July 20, he tossed 3.2 hitless innings with six strikeouts and one walk. On July 25, he allowed two runs on six hits in 3.2 innings with nine strikeouts and no walks.He is expected to pitch three innings Thursday. The 2022 season marks Sale’s 11th Major League season and sixth with the Red Sox. He is a seven-time all-star and finished in the top six in American League Cy Young Award voting in seven consecutive seasons from 2012-2018.
