What's the Buzz: Get ready for the Folk Festival, fishing, and fireworks

Pick any one of the events happening in and around the area to keep your week busy. Whatever you choose to do, I’ll be highlighting attractions, activities, and festivals right here, every week. From local music and shows to options for those of you who don’t mind traveling a bit, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to check all activities, as cancellations can occur. The events listed are for June 30 to July 9.

Saturday

Youth Fishing Tournament. Sugartree Marina's monthly Youth Fishing Tournament is open to kids up to the age of 15. The tournament is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those wishing to participate must bring their own bait and tackle. This is a free, family-friendly event. America. What better band to celebrate this Independence Day weekend with than one aptly named America. This classic rock band continues to impress with hits like "A Horse With No Name" and "Tin Man." Celebrating 50 years of music, the show is sure to take you back in time. The performance is scheduled to run from 8 to 10 p.m. Tickets are available at www.capitoltheatrewheeling.com and range from $49 to $119. For more information call 304-233-4470. Monday

Boomarama 2022 is slated for Monday at Cambridge City Park.

Boom-A-Rama. Head to Cambridge City Park for the annual fireworks show and check out one of the best displays around town. Food and drink vendors will be on hand, and the city pool will be offering a special. The Cambridge City Band is scheduled to perform a slew of patriotic tunes in the big pavilion beginning at 7:30 p.m. Any veterans in the audience will be recognized. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. with the accompanying soundtrack available on WCMJ 96 FM. For more information call 740-432-3287. Cambridge City Park, 1101 McFarland Drive, Cambridge.

Wednesday

Ohio Hills Folk Festival. Quaker City hosts the 118th Ohio Hills Folk Festival. The weekend-long event brings vendors, games, and some of the most talented artisans around. Check out local handiwork at the quilt show, or join in one of the three parades. A car, truck, and bike show is scheduled for Saturday morning and various musical acts keep the festival entertained throughout the weekend. Stop by the festival kitchen and grab some of the best homemade noodles. Enjoy a fireworks display on Saturday evening or grab your rubber ducky for the duck race. As highlighted in last week’s column

  • Tucked Away Arena Rodeo. Nothing says Southeastern Ohio like hillside rodeo events. Bring your blankets and chairs and pick a spot to watch some rodeo fun. Mutton busting will begin at 4 p.m., with the rodeo to follow at 5 p.m. Admission is $15, with kids under age 5 admitted for free. For more information call 337-427-6336.
