Tina Peters claims fraud after losing Republican nomination for Colorado Secretary of State

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Following her loss in the Republican race for Colorado Secretary of State, Mesa Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters claims the results are evidence of cheating.

Peters addressed a crowd of her supporters last night in Sedalia, Colorado after learning of the loss.

"You guys gave it your all," said Peters. "We didn't lose, we just found out more fraud."

She told her supporters she was grateful for their support and that her efforts to pursue the nomination would continue.

"As I was looking at the results, it was so obvious that it should be flipped, and all I can say is I'm gonna keep fighting for you guys," said Peters. "We're gonna do this. They're cheating, and we're gonna prove it once again like we already have."

The clerk and recorder made national headlines in March when she was indicted for criminal charges including official misconduct and tampering with election equipment.

Because of the charges, a judge barred Peters from overseeing Mesa County Elections.

Peters is one of three candidates who deny the results of the 2020 presidential election, who lost their primary races. Republicans Dave Williams and Ron Hanks also lost their elections.

Kevin McCarney, Chairman of the Mesa County Republican Party, said he is ready for the GOP to move forward instead of focusing on election accusations.

“I was a huge supporter of Miss Peters early on, but she made it pretty clear that she was not about just elections, she was about herself," said McCarney. "And I think when you have a candidate that's about herself as opposed to principle, you're going to have problems with that.”

McCarney said he feels confident that the Republican candidates continuing to the general election are best for the state, and he hopes the party will form a united front in anticipation of this November.
