Bringing the stars, ocean TOGETHER

Bringing the stars, ocean TOGETHER

Families invited to Oceans in Space mobile planetarium event

(Seguin) — Both children and adults are invited to dive into a dome of discovery this Thursday at the Seguin Public Library.

As part of its Summer Reading Experience, the library will be hosting a mobile planetarium event.

Library Youth Services Manager Hannah Farmer says families will be able to go inside the dome with Stars & Science Austin as it presents “Oceans in Space.”

“We’ve had this group out to our library before and they have been fantastic. It is Stars & Science Austin, and they bring their mobile inflatable dome which is a planetarium and teach us about space. Well, this summer, our theme is an Ocean of Possibilities and they have a show called Oceans in Space that links oceanography with the search for life in outer space and so it seems like the perfect fit and we think it will be a way to draw in even more people to come back to the library and sign up for the Summer Reading Experience, “said Farmer.

The event runs all day Thursday with times for specific age groups.

“The presenters target the presentation to the different ages and so I would say we start off with our elementary age group since that is our largest age group that attends, Thursday at 10 a.m. is when the shows will begin and we expect that there will be a lot of people here so while the first group is in the dome, anybody that arrives after that can do other craft activities while they wait their turn and we’ll get through that age group. So, if you’ve got you know a 10 and a 11-year-old, maybe you might want to try coming to the 2 o’clock group for teens. It’s just a guideline but we are excited about having them all day,” said Farmer.

Those times include 10 a.m. for kids ages 5 to 11; noon for ages 3 to 5; 2 p.m. for ages 12 to 17 and 4 p.m. for adults.  Space is limited so the mobile planetarium will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.
