The Central Nebraska Veterans' Home (CNVH) celebrated the 4th of July early on Wednesday with their own unique parade.
From tractors, to fancy cars, to first responders vehicles, this year was the 3rd Annual Patriot Parade organized by the entire community of Kearney and surrounding areas.
This event is specifically for the Veterans' Home residents. Organizers said is important to bring this event to the residents as they are not able to go out and enjoy other 4th of July parades.
"I'm a 20 year military veteran myself, and I am fully supportive of military efforts for men and women across the nation," said Kim Deyo, member of the American Legion Honor Guard, Disabled American Veterans and VFW. "I call this a drive if you will to make sure that our veterans are never forgotten."
Deyo, CNVH staff, and administration helped with the organization of the event. Over 100 floats took part in the parade.
Multiple institutions, associations and individuals, including the Kearney Police Department, the Fire Department, local tractor owners and the Nebraska American Legion, just to mention a few, made up the parade. The opening of the parade was made by a helicopter from Good Samaritan's Air.
Deyo said this annual event shows a big community effort so that war heroes enjoy themselves as they celebrate the 4th of July.
