OVIEDO, Fla. – The Oviedo Police Department has arrested a man for shooting a 41-year-old woman during a road rage incident on Tuesday evening.

"He did not act lawfully. His actions were not legal, so he was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery," explained Chief Dale Coleman during a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Coleman says the victim was shot in her torso and remains in the hospital in critical but stable condition.

According to the police report, the incident escalated at a red light when the suspect's vehicle began aggressively honking at the victim.

At the next stop light, the victim exited her vehicle, engaging in an argument before having water bottles thrown at her by the suspect.

"She had a gunshot wound in what we call through and through. There was a hole in the front, and it went all the way through," Coleman said.

Police say the suspect, Keegan Joseph Johnson, fired two shots at the corner of Alexandria Blvd. and Alafaya Trail, with one hitting the woman.

Officers performed first aid measures until paramedics arrived.

Nearby residents like Joe Torres say he wasn't sure what happened after driving by the incident moments after shots were fired.

"I thought it was just a car accident," he shared.

The longtime Oviedo resident has lived in the area for 30 years and says he doesn't hear about too many situations like this happening.

Discovering what he thought was an accident was actually a road rage incident is something he says shocked him.

"That was tough seeing the lady pulled out on a stretcher, hoping she was ok."

Oviedo Police say the case is still ongoing.
