Bail was set at $3 million dollars for an accused murderer in Pierce County.
Kacy Estes and his brother Jacy Estes are facing multiple charges related to a deadly shooting Sunday night in Tacoma that left one dead and injured several others.
Both the victim’s family and the suspects’ family were in court Wednesday. Both Estes brothers are facing charges for murder, assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
“I just know we’re all hurt, there are babies left that aren’t going to know their dad,” Sara Martin, the victim’s ex-wife, said. “It just hurts.”
Alejandro Lloret, 38, was killed in a shooting on East 52nd Street Sunday night. Witnesses told police, the brothers, Kacy and Jacy Estes, showed up at the house intoxicated, went into the backyard where everyone was and opened gunfire. Several people, including both brothers, were injured during the shootout and Lloret did not survive.
According to court documents, the victim's 13-year-old son “saw J. Estes pull a pistol out, and said that he proceeded to ‘unload his pistol’ into victim A.L. He saw his father drop to the ground after being shot so he got his other brothers and hid in the house until law enforcement arrived.”
“He made this choice with multiple innocent children in the house, some possibly witnesses, certainly heard it,” Tamara Lloret, the victim’s sister-in-law said. “This is their last memory of their father.”
On Wednesday several family members were present in court as the victim's family pleaded with the judge to keep Kacy Estes in jail. Prosecutors noted Estes' long criminal history, including manslaughter, theft, burglary and assault, and said Estes just got out of prison earlier this year.
Estes and Lloret were co-defendants in a 2009 murder case where Estes shot and killed a woman at a Tacoma apartment. Court documents from the 2009 case state Lloret was present at the murder but did not pull the trigger.
“As easily as he walked out of prison serving his time for another murder, he walked into that house,” Tamara Lloret said.
According to court documents, witnesses told police the brothers were upset over that case and believed Lloret was a 'snitch' because he didn't serve as much jail time.
“His kids were just part of him, he always said you know, it’s just sad, everyone loses,” Martin said. “There’s no point.”
According to court documents Jacy Estes was detained by police and taken to the hospital. There is a bench warrant out for his arrest. Kacy Estes is due back in court in two weeks.
