The Illinois Department of Human Services, IDHS, is now being held in contempt of court by a Sangamon County judge.
Sangamon County officials filed a contempt petition and sued the agency, saying IDHS officials refused to take custody of inmates that were deemed unfit to stand trial and need mental health services.
State statue requires the agency to take custody of inmates deemed unfit, and while the governor suspended the statute due to COVID, the court ruled that order was unenforceable.

IDHS and the agency's secretary Grace Hou will be fined $100 a day until the inmates in question are in appropriate facilities.
