(June 29, 2022 8:51 PM) For years high school volleyball teams have traveled to Adrian or Mason for team scrimmage leagues.

With the price of gas over $5 per gallon, it didn’t make any sense to drive out of town.

So new Jackson College head volleyball Coach Lisa Bradley came up with a solution to keep area teams in Jackson … offer open courts at the Victor Cuiss Fieldhouse.

JC hosted the third of five summer high school volleyball leagues on Wednesday with Columbia Central facing Jackson High.

Each of the teams bring their junior varsity and varsity teams for timed – not scored – scrimmages where coaches stand on the sidelines offering instant coaching tips.

Bradley gets a chance to see some up-and-coming talent in Jackson County. While she was at it, Bradley talked to the student athletes about the benefits of attending JC and gave the volleyball players a look at the weight room.

Jackson College has not had a volleyball squad since 2019 due to COVID-19 and other factors. Bradley said she has five signed players for this fall, and had as many as a dozen players at a prospects camp, and will have tryouts at the end of the month.

She fully expects to have a team ready for the 2022 campaign in the fall and be competitive.
