U.S. 101 South close intermittently near the end of July so crews can complete the new Jacoby Creek Bridge.
According to Caltrans District 1, Southbound U.S. 101 between Arcata and Eureka at the new Jacoby Creek Bridge will be fully closed on July 22 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday, July 23. This section of the highway will close again on July 23 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 24.
Caltrans said travelers should use Route 255 during these times.
Travelers have been driving over a temporary detour bridge while construction happened on the new bridge. The upcoming road closures will allow crews to move the new bridge to its permanent location.
The old Jacoby Creek Bridge was built in the 1920s and finally reached the end of its “useful life,” according to Caltrans. The new bridge, which is part of the Eureka-Arcata Route 101 Corridor Improvement Project, will have a taller deck height and larger surface area than the previous bridge.
Drivers can expect at least five-minute delays on southbound U.S. 101 in the hours surrounding the closures.
