Santee Cooper Worker Rescues Baby Deer Stuck In Fence

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – A Santee Cooper worker was in the right place at the right time when he came across a fawn in a bit of a predicament.

According to the utility company, the baby deer managed to get stuck inside a substation fence.

Thomas Agema, a construction and maintenance planner for Santee Cooper, rescued the baby deer and reunited it with its mom last week, the company said.

“The mother was near the powerline looking at us, so I was glad to see her close by. I was able to catch the baby and calm it down before I was able to let it go and be reunited with the mother,” Thomas said.

In South Carolina, fawns are generally born in April, May or June in South Carolina, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
