UPDATE: One of the Two Bibb County Deputies Who Was Shot Has Died

One of the two Bibb County deputies who was shot on Wednesday has died.

District Attorney Michael Jackson confirms to Alabama News Network that Deputy Brad Johnson died at 3:18PM today at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.

Johnson was 32 and was a seven-year veteran of the Bibb County Sheriff’s office.

Investigator Chris Poole, 30, has been released from the hospital.

The suspect in the shootings was taken into custody this morning after a manhunt that lasted through the night.

Austin Patrick Hall was arrested at about 7:30AM in the 1200 block of Bulldog Ben Road in Brierfield, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Hall has a criminal record with 72 different charges since 2012, including assault, attempting to elude police and resisting arrest, authorities said. He tried to choke a corrections officer in Calhoun County in 2020, according to ALEA. Hall was released from Calhoun County Jail in April.

The shooting happened at around 5PM Wednesday on Highway 25 in the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area in the Brierfield area during the pursuit of a stolen vehicle, according to District Attorney Michael Jackson.

A Blue Alert was issued while Hall was still at large.  He had been last seen running away from the scene on Golfer’s Trail in Brierfield, which is an unincorporated area of Bibb County, east of Centreville.

The manhunt involved Troopers with ALEA’s  Highway Patrol Division, Aviation Unit and Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of  Investigation (SBI) along with officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bibb  County Sheriff’s Office, Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Perry County Sheriff’s Office,  Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Chilton County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s  Office, Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Vestavia Hills Police  Department, Demopolis Police Department, Thorsby Police Department, Moundville Police  Department, Pelham Police Department and officers with the Alabama Department of  Conservation and Natural Resources all responded to the scene.
