Over 2,000 illegal fireworks recovered in June, says Merced Police

Thousands of illegal fireworks are now off the streets of Merced, thanks to the Merced Police Department.

According to Merced PD, members of the Disruptive Area Response Team (DART) have recovered over 500 bottle rockets, 1,000 mortars, 100 firecrackers, and 700 roman candles in the month of June. Multiple people have also been arrested in June for trying to sell illegal fireworks online.

“Merced DART will be patrolling the streets this coming holiday weekend proactively and responding to calls for illegal fireworks,” said Merced PD.

Officers also mentioned that those caught with illegal fireworks can face the following fines:

  • First citation - $1,000
  • Second citation - $1,500
  • Third citation - $2,000
