Centralia Alpha Road, which runs from Summa Road in Centralia out to the unincorporated community of Alpha, where it reaches state Route 508, will soon undergo a monthslong partial closure.

Lewis County Public Works will close Centralia Alpha Road to through traffic from July 11 to Sept. 30 between milepost 15.71 and 15.92. This is between the Centralia Alpha intersections of Middle Fork and Griel roads.

The detour will take eastbound traffic from Centralia Alpha to Middle Fork, left on Dluhosh Road and left on Griel Road back to Centralia Alpha.

Locally-affected residents will be permitted to drive to and from their homes where the road is closed.

The closure will allow Public Works to construct a 22-foot culvert where the road crosses the Middle Fork Newaukum River. The culvert will improve fish passage on the river, replacing a culvert previously in place.

“There are several alternative routes around it,” Public Works Director Josh Metcalf said Wednesday. “There will be local access provided. There are a couple of roads that are inside the closure areas.”
