Ten years ago when he was an 11-year-old, Simon Jenkins knew that young, beautiful Peyton Wynn would someday be his wife.

They met at Johnson Elementary School in Pinson, Alabama. They giggled at one another as they sat in Patti Hathorn’s class.

“It started to hit me in eighth grade," Jenkins said. “I was starting to think that Peyton could be the one. I knew that we had so much growing to do, but we were always together. We graduated from Pinson Valley High School in 2019.”

Twelve days ago, and both Jenkins and Wynn had turned 21 days before. Enter Jenkins' mother, an event planner with a flair for the arts. But where would the proposal take place?

Who would have thought that a fifth-grade classroom could look so romantic? Jenkins' mom went to work, turning Jenkins' and Wynn's old classroom into something special with signs, flowers, candles and a special path where he could lead her.

“We were going out to eat to celebrate our tenth anniversary and my mom called," Jenkins said. “She told me that she forgot something at her PTA meeting at Johnson Elementary School. I apologized to Peyton and told her we needed to stop by the school. You should have seen Peyton’s face when she walked into that classroom."

Their fifth-grade teacher was even there to help the couple celebrate the very special moment.

The couple's love story is far from over — a wedding date has yet to be set.

Wynn just graduated from dental hygiene school and Jenkins will soon enter the Air Force.

“When I first set eyes on Peyton in elementary school, I felt my heart beat a little faster. There was just something special about Peyton," Jenkins said.
