Delray Beach Native Coco Gauff survived a scare in round one of Wimbledon, further proving that she can win on the big stage, even on a day when she's far from living up to her potential.
Gauff was only able to convert four of twenty-five break point chances in Tuesday's eventual win over Elena-Gabriela Ruse, along with far too many unforced errors on what was a gusty day on court two. But Gauff was able to dig deep enough to take the match in three sets. Her will to win has become stronger than ever as an 18 year old, which makes her extremely dangerous according to Tennis Channel's Steve Weisman.
:She's alwats had the ability to really work her way through a match," says Weisman. "I think that's really what separates her from really most players on the tour. She can problem solve during a match and figure her way out."
Gauff will take the court on Thursday for her round two match no earlier than 11:45 AM. Tennis Channel has prime time coverage from Wimbledon starting at 4:30 PM.
