A major road project starts next week, impacting drivers who use U.S. 250 in Harrison and Tuscarawas counties.
Beginning July 6, a 4.5 mile stretch of the road will be closed.
It starts at the State Route 800 intersection near Dennison to the State Route 151 intersection in Harrison County.
Crews will remove the old concrete base pavement and rebuild the roadway from the dirt up.
The detour uses U.S. 22 and State Route 800.
Are there concerns about the increased truck and vehicle traffic on those detour routes?
“Our roads are built to withstand that amount of traffic, especially for commercial vehicles, they're rated to withstand that amount traffic,” ODOT spokesperson Lauren Borell said.
“With any closure, we utilize our state interstate and U.S. routes that we maintain, that way we're not directing traffic on local roads we know. That that's always the case, so folks will find different ways around it, but as the state, we are responsible for detouring on our routes.
Emergency services and homeowners will have access to the area through the construction.
It's expected to last through October.
