A Trenton man has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault on accusations he raped a young girl on multiple occasions, court documents show.

Taalibidin Shakir, 44, is charged with nine felonies in total, including the aggravated sexual assault charges, as well as counts of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The victim is a non-family member under the age of 13, the criminal complaints and police say.

The case started June 21 with a police call to a home in Trenton’s East Ward, where patrol officers were informed of an alleged sexual assault on the victim. The officers arrested Shakir a short time later at a residence on Garfield Avenue, police said.

An investigation by Detective Gloria Garcia led to the charges against Shakir. The assaults occurred this month, as well as in November and December of last year, the charges allege.

Officers Vishan Singh, Jamar Booker, Ryan Hornberger and Sgt. Anthony Manzo made the arrest.

Shakir remains in the Mercer County jail awaiting court appearances. Lawyer information for the suspect could not immediately be found.
