Ascension St. Vincent abruptly announced Wednesday that the hospital system will close 11 immediate care centers by the end of the day Thursday.

Ascension Medical Group St. Vincent officials gave no reason for the decision in a brief emailed statement, which said primary care physician offices located in the same site as walk-in clinics will not be affected by the closure.

Immediate care employees will be offered comparable jobs at another Ascension location, the statement said.

Three locations will remain open — the walk-in care clinic in Carmel at Hazel Dell Parkway, the Zionsville clinic on Michigan Road, and the Eppworth Crossing center in the Evansville area.

The locations closing in central Indiana include Ascension Medical Group-St. Vincent Walk-In Care in Broad Ripple, Brownsburg, and Fishers.

The Anderson, Crawfordsville, Elwood, Frankfort, and Kokomo locations will close in addition to three locations in Evansville.
