CHP: Burbank man killed in crash near Redwood Valley Monday

A Southern California man was killed in a crash on Highway 101 near Redwood Valley Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

According to the CHP, a man identified only as a 36-year-old resident of Burbank, Calif., was driving a 2006 Toyota Prius northbound on Hwy. 101 around 6:30 p.m. June 27. For reasons that have not been determined, the driver of the Prius drove through the center median and into the southbound lanes of the highway south of West Road.

The Prius was then struck by a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by a 33-year-old resident of Houston, Texas. The driver of the Cherokee was not injured, but his 65-year-old female passenger, also a resident of Houston, suffered major injuries and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Prius suffered fatal injuries and was not identified. The CHP reports that it is “unknown at this time whether the driver of the Prius was impaired at the time of the collision.”
