Eighteen local high school students have started a 13 week course in the Emergency Medical Technician class at the Deep East Texas College & Career Academy in Jasper with a goal of earning their State of Texas EMT certification and going into the emergency medical services field.

The Deep East Texas College & Career Academy in Jasper has announced that eighteen local high school students, all ages 17 and 18, have started in the Emergency Medical Technician class with a goal of earning their State of Texas EMT certification and going into the emergency medical services field.

According to the school, a grant was obtained from the Texas Education Agency for the 13 week training course and it is being conducted with Acadian EMS.

Meanwhile, the school will begin their Licensed Vocational Nursing program in January, which is also open to local high school seniors.
